Position Summary

CleanCapital owns and operates a growing portfolio of distributed generation (DG) solar and battery storage assets — approximately 400 sites at ~500MW today, scaling toward 1.5GW over the next two to three years. We are hiring a Director of Commercial Asset Management to build and lead this function from the ground up: today, commercial asset management sits without a dedicated senior owner, managed across other verticals on an ad hoc basis. The Director will hold commercial P&L accountability for the portfolio — owning revenue performance, budgeting, and variance management — while managing the counterparty relationships, contracts, and compliance obligations that drive portfolio performance, working closely with Technical Asset Management, Accounting, and Treasury/Finance to keep the portfolio on plan. We are looking for an AI-curious, forward-thinking candidate who actively integrates AI tools into their daily professional routine.

Core Responsibilities

P&L & Financial Accountability

  • Hold commercial P&L accountability for the portfolio, owning revenue performance, annual budget development, and variance review against plan

  • Lead annual operating budget development and ongoing variance review for the commercial asset base

  • Serve as the primary financial and commercial escalation point when cost trends (O&M, capex timing) threaten margin, revenue, or covenant compliance — providing formal input into technical/opex budgeting cycles in partnership with Technical Asset Management, though budget approval authority for technical opex remains with TAM

  • Deliver monthly/quarterly variance reporting to the COO, identifying root causes and corrective actions for material deviations from plan

  • Conduct distribution review, ensuring cash distributions align with waterfall terms, DSCR compliance, and Watch List protocol status

Contracts, Revenue & Compliance

  • Manage offtake agreements, PPAs, and lease/easement compliance across ~350+ sites, including tracking key contractual milestones, escalations, and renewal windows

  • Lead revenue assurance efforts, identifying and resolving billing discrepancies, disputed accounts, and counterparty non-performance in coordination with Legal

  • Manage community solar subscriber managers and ensure accuracy of reporting

  • Manage SREC contracting and ongoing compliance across applicable state programs

  • Own property tax oversight across the portfolio in coordination with third party advisors

  • Support corporate compliance requirements

Counterparty & Cross-Functional Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for counterparty relationship management — offtakers, landowners, utilities, subscriber managers, and various third parties

  • Partner with Technical Asset Management and Accounting to reconcile performance shortfalls (e.g., P50 vs. actual generation) against contractual and lender obligations

  • Eye towards maximizing asset-level economics – explore cost saving measures (O&M, insurance, property tax, etc.) and revenue enhancing opportunities (refinancing opportunities in coordination with Investments; offtake extensions, BESS retrofitting and repowering in coordination with Growth and Technical Asset Management)

  • Support debt compliance workstreams and Watch List protocol items that touch commercial terms

  • Explore avenues to expand our land stewardship practices (sheep grazing, agrivoltaics, etc.) and community engagement strategies

Team & Function Build

  • Build out a scalable operating structure for portfolio commercial oversight as the fleet scales toward 1.5GW

  • Research and onboard enhanced compliance and reporting tools as necessary

  • Hire and develop a team as portfolio complexity and headcount needs grow

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent experience a plus

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Proven AI literacy, including understanding AI strengths, limitations, and ethical considerations.

  • 7+ years in commercial asset management, contract administration, or portfolio management within renewable energy, specifically Distributed Generation (DG) solar and BESS

  • Direct experience with PPAs, offtake agreements, or lease/easement structures in solar, storage, or another distributed energy asset class

  • Experience owning a budget and being measured against variance to plan, ideally across a multi-site or multi-entity asset base

  • Experience with property tax administration, SREC markets, and/or renewable energy incentive compliance strongly preferred

Psychosocial Skills /Human Skills/Behavioral Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion.

  • Technical understanding of clean energy business processes

  • Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

  • Excellence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
